The Lost Ring

On the 10th of August, 2025, during the first week of the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, an ominous cloud of smoke rose above Edinburgh. Gorse bushes on the slopes of the extinct volcano (and beloved landmark) Arthur’s Seat had caught fire. They burned through the night until firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.

It was all very exciting, and very apocalyptic.

A short time after the fires were finally extinguished, a member of the International Ghost Society found a ring lying in the burned grass on the Seat. Here’s a picture of it:

It looks like it may be a wedding or engagement ring. There’s an inscription inside that indicates a relatively recent date. But how the ring came to be lost on the hillside is a mystery.

And we love mysteries.

Was it discarded deliberately? Lost years ago while on a moonlit stroll? Did it fall while a visitor fled the spread of the flames? It is cursed? Blessed? Magical? Valuable?

We don’t know, but we’d like to find out. If this is your ring… or you know whose ring it might be, please get in touch (hello@ghostsociety.co.uk).

For now, the ring rests securely in our archives. But, as soon as we know who it belongs to we’ll send it back to the rightful owner and (if they’re willing to share the story of how it was lost) update this page with more information.
