Stirling Jail Ghost Hunt

We’ll be visiting Stirling Old Town Jail on the 13th of April, 2024, for a ghost hunt. Want to come along? You’d be more than welcome. Here’s what you need to know.

Where

Stirling Old Town Jail is a building with a history stretching back nearly 200 years. It’s situated in the middle of the city of Stirling, which is about an hour away from Edinburgh.

Over the years the building has served as a regular old prison, a military jail and a storehouse for sweets. After a period of abandonment, it’s now a visitor attraction.

There’s also a really beautiful graveyard just next door, along with a few other very old and very haunted-looking buildings.

The jail itself is quite unique, and features a “panopticon” – a place from which one guard could keep an eye on every cell in the block.

Previous visitors have reported seeing shadowy figures moving in and out of the cells, and hearing the cries of children echoing down the prison corridors. Spooky stuff!

When

We’ll be heading to Stirling on Saturday the 13th of April 2024, where we’ll have access to the jail from 20:30. The ghost hunt could run until 03:00, but we might wrap up a little earlier than that. You don’t have to stay to the end!

Transport

Getting to Stirling is pretty easy. It’s about a one hour drive from Edinburgh, and there is plenty of parking available at the jail and in the nearby streets. You can also get the train to Stirling, although bear in mind that the last train back to Edinburgh leaves Stirling before midnight. If you want to stay over in Stirling there are lots of options for doing so.

Equipment and Activities

We have a range of equipment, and will try out a few different activities to see what kind of spooky experiences we can have. Our equipment includes: an EMF meter, sensor balls, various trigger objects, a REM pod, a cursed Furby, a laser grid, a digital EVP recorder, a ouija board and more.

If there’s anything particular you’d like to try, do let us know!

There’ll be a rest area at the jail where you can always take a break if you want. You don’t have to take part in any activity if you don’t feel like it.

How to attend

Firstly, please join the society. This is a prerequisite for attending any ghost hunts. It’s free, and basically just means subscribing to our mailing list. More information here.

Then, if you’d like to come along, please let us know by dropping us an email. Do let us know if you’re planning on driving, too (and if you’d be happy to give someone else a lift if so). Likewise, if you’d like to come but need transport to get there, do let us know.

We’ll send along more information, and make final arrangements a few days before the hunt.

Places are limited, so if a lot of people want to come we’ll pick names out of a hat. Cheers!
